The University Of Western Australia - Barry J Marshall Library

The existing three-level Biological Sciences Library building at UWA, constructed in 1991 was extended in 2008 to become the Barry J Marshall Library.

The building combines new and emerging information technology with traditional knowledge resources in a user-focused, service-rich environment that supports social and educational patterns of learning, teaching and research.

The Library floors are progressively stepped out so that each level protects the one below from sun penetration, thereby eliminating the need for additional window screens or blinds.Colonnades have been created on the east lank as an extension of that of the existing building and on the south flank as the beginnings of a new cloistered major green space on campus.

To meet its contextual obligations, the extended library employs the same fair faced limestone coloured concrete walls and pitched terracotta tiled roof as the original library.
